The Areny mountain is a gift from nature. When you visit it, you have the feeling of being in a special, unique place. The red and the fanciful shapes of the rock transport you to a distant world.
The proposed route is circular and starts at the Ermita car park, following the yellow signs on the rocks or trees. At the first crossroads, you have to choose whether to go on the right (straight) or on the left. The most common route is to continue to the right, towards the Cova Foradada and then descend the Escales del Diable, following the cliff towards the Areny. When you reach the ‘clot or pla de l’Areny’, in the shape of a circus, the itinerary continues south until you find a path, which leads to another crossroads where you continue to the left, towards the Hermitage. The views from the highest point are magnificent with the Sanctuary, the village of Mont-roig and the sea in the background.
It should be noted that this route is not suitable for people with vertigo or fear of heights or for families with small children, due to the slopes that follow the cliff towards the Areny. But there are other paths that allow you to reach the Areny, without any difficulty, of course, starting the route in the parking lot of the Cova del Patou, at the foot of the Hermitage.
If you want to know the Areny in more detail, we recommend that you visit the lesser-known natural secrets of Mont-roig and Miami.
